my-Pod

In anticipation of the winter meetings, I'm holding off on any Yankees related speculation. Peter Abraham is on his way to Orlando, and is ready to blog until he's blue. He's also left us a 10 song list that came up on his i-Pod shuffle. I've wanted to leave my own here at COH for a while, but decided to wait until the off season to do so. Today seems like as good a time as any. Here goes:

1. You're Makin' Me High - Toni Braxton
2. I Love King Selassie - Black Uhuru
3. Pimpa's Paradise - Damian Marley, featuring Stephen Marley & Black Thought
4. My Shining Hour - John Coltrane
5. Jonz in My Bonz - D'Angelo
6. Poor Man Cry - Israel Vibration
7. Redman Meets Reggie Noble - Redman
8. More Prophet - Capelton
9. The Messenger - Luciano
10. Blackman in Effect - Boogie Down Productions
11. Uncivilized - The Beatnuts
12. The Rivers of Babylon - The Melodians
13. Betrayal - Gang Starr
14. Les Flammes Du Mal - Passi
15. Legalize It - Peter Tosh
16. Get Off the Bandwagon - EPMD
17. Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos - Public Enemy
18. Maw Latin Blues - Nuyorican Soul
19. Hold - KRS One
20. We Want Freedom - Dead Prez
21. Rock Wit U - Alicia Keys
22. Nuits a Medicine - Akhenation
23. No Ordinary Love - Sade
24. K.I.M. - EPMD
25. C'Qui Nous Perd - Kery James

There you have my Top 25. I started at 10, but the list was just getting good, so I decided to keep going until something silly came up. The capper was New Edition's "Girls We Like", which was big when I was a freshman in high school, and on my i-Pod as a goof. Some thoughts on the songs:

Interestingly, the only repeat artists are EPMD and KRS One/BDP. I would have expected Bob Marley to appear at least once, and probably more given the volume of music I have in my i-Pod from his various collections. I also expected a Burning Spear track. I thought it was cool that three different French hip hop acts came up on the list, which is kind of surprising. Passi, Akhenation, and Kery James are all good listens, but the French hip hop that has my ear these days is anything from the Saian Super Crew. Only one jazz artist, in Coltrane. Would have liked to have seen some Miles pop up, but it doesn't get much better than Coltrane.

There you have it. I'll do this again a few times before pitchers and catchers, just to change things up. Let me know what's on your i-Pod these days. Go get 'em Ca$h Money.

"The Yankees allowed major league scout Jim Benedict to break his contract and join the Indians in the same role. E-mailed Indians GM Mark Shapiro: "He will have a strong voice in our decision-making, both internally and externally . . . We are appreciative that Brian [Cashman] and the Yankees gave us the opportunity to interview him to be one of our chief evaluators." Former Yankees Pacific Rim scout John Cox <----(He was the Guy who signed Wang back in 2001), meanwhile, has found work with the Giants. No big loss we hired his replacement this past summer and he's More connected with the Players overseas.

The Yankees have hired Kendall Carter away from Arizona as their national cross-checker. Carter did nice work in helping to build the Diamondbacks' impressive farm system." that's a Big move for our farm. I'm Excited about Next years Draft even more.
